Hi guys, Anyone notice bitcoin transaction rate? It hit 167 transactions per second. Isnt it the highest of all times. Or am i missing something?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if Bitcoin's transaction rate is so limited, how come it isn't backlogged by weeks/months years by now??

or is this more about future-proofing?

Maximum Bitcoin transaction rate only 7 per second?

In the hearing today Anthony Gallippi mentioned that the entire Bitcoin network only has the capacity to handle 7 transactions per second. Is this true? What are the reasons for this and what are people doing about it?

03-10 22:44 - 'BTC is actually a shitcoin ?' (self.Bitcoin) by /u/HugeNano removed from /r/Bitcoin within 0-6min

'''
A few thoughts;
Bitcoin transaction rate & energy consumption is jurassic, it's underlying tech the blockchain has started a revolution, but the BTC itself has been surpassed by almost any altcoin out there ?
the market hype is fed by (mostly failing) technical analyst's, the magic halving and crazy assumptions it might reach 6 digits ?
*after the upcoming halving who will risk the investment to mine "outdated tech", that could be worth "nothing" ?
When the hype stops and savvy have switched to valid crypto coins or tech, wouldnt the bitcoin turn to shitcoin pretty quick ?

Bitcoin Median Transaction Fee Drops to 6 Cents As Bitcoin Hash Rate Hits All Time Highs

On 22 Dec 2019, the Bitcoin median transaction fee was just 6 cents!
Median = is the value separating the higher half from the lower half of a data sample
Bitcoin hash rate on the same day was very close to all time high.
SegWit usage is fluctuating between 50% and 62%, and is very likely to hit all time highs soon.
The Bitcoin network is getting stronger, is resilient, reliable, fast and getting cheaper.
There are coins that offer faster transaction times, and / or cheaper fees, but they cannot compete with the Bitcoin network effects.

Anybody interested in participating in a class-action lawsuit against Blockstream?

According to at least one witness, Blockstream needs to activate segwit to further their commercial interests:

Blockstream employees expressed frustration at the lack of activation of segwit, which is needed for their commercial products.

What is Monero's theoretical maximum transaction rate?

I know that Bitcoin is limited to something like 7 transactions per second right now. This is because of Bitcoin's block size limit. I am aware that Monero has a self adjusting limit. However, even without the block size limit, Bitcoin's transaction rate would be limited by the orphan risk that miners would be willing to incur. I'm not sure if this same logic applies to Monero.
